Novena prayer for the new auxiliary bishops of Den Bosch

Bishop Hurkmans of ‘s-Hertogenbosch has written to the parishes in his diocese, offering a suggestion for the homilies of the upcoming weekend and also asking faithful to pray the following novena prayer in the runup to the consecration of the two new auxiliary bishops of that diocese, on 18 September.

Dear God,

Who established Your Church on the foundations of the Apostles
and Who desired their pastoral tasks
to be transmitted through the bishops,
we ask You;
abundantly give your Spirit
to the two auxiliary bishops whom You have chosen
to assist our bishop in his pastoral ministry
to the entire diocese.
Equip them for the proclamation of the Gospel;
that they may find the right words to make known
Your liberating truth in today’s world.
Sanctify them and make them similar to Your Son
so that they may passionately give form to His high priesthood,
especially in the celebration of the Eucharistic sacrifice.
Also give them the spirit of wisdom
now that they are called to share in the service of leadership
which You have entrusted in Your Church to the bishops.
Dear God, bless our diocese,
bless our bishop and both new auxiliary bishops.
Give a new springtime to the Church in our area:
that many may once again come to the faith,
that all the faithful may passionately live their faith
so that the Gospel may be heard
and people may be saved to the eternal life with your Son.
We ask You to provide in this
Through the intercession of the sweet mother,
through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Our Father…
Hail Mary…
Glory be…

Sweet Mother of Den Bosch, pray for us

The above is my translation of the prayer, but perhaps it will serve as well to be prayed for Msgr. Liesen and Msgr. Mutsaerts.

I will be attending the consecration, wich falls in the middle of the pope’s visit to the UK. Busy times.
